Unk to Language : Passive We use the passive to focus on what happened , rather than on who did the action . The passive isvery common in science reporting . Example : Thousands ofpeople were left homeless . The passive is formed with the verb be ( e . g . am / is / are / was / were ) and the third form of the verb ( V 3 ) .
