Cats : Cats are independent and can be good for families that are not home partof the day . Cats can live indoors and so they can be a good option for people who live in an apartment or in a city . Cats should not drink a lot of milk . You need to buy cat food , a litter box and toys . Remember to clean the litter box at least twice a week . Take your cat to the vet once a year . Guinea pigs : Guinea pigs do not like to live alone so you should have two or more guinea pigs together in the cage . However , make sure they do not fight , and separate them if they do . Guinea pigs need a big cage in a room with lots of fresh air but no sun . The cage should have an exercise wheel and a water dish . You should feed them special food called pellets and also fruits and vegetables . You must clean the cage two or three times a week . Birds : Birds do not like to live alone so you should have two or more birds together in the cage . You will need a birdcage that is big enough for the birds to move around and stretch their wings . You could put in a bird swing for exercise . Birds also need water , birdseed , vegetables and fruit . You must clean the cage once a week . Take your pet birds to the vet if they get sick . Birds wake up early in the morning and can be very noisy ! Iguanas : Iguanas can become quite big , so they need a large cage . You must teach iguanas to be around people . Take the iguana out of the cage every day and hold it . Iguanas love to swim so your pet could have fun in the bathtub . Iguanas eat plants and different kinds of fruits and vegetables . They also need some protein . If you already have another pet in the house , be careful . Your iguana can hurt the other animals . Fish : Fish are beautiful pets . They do not need a lot of attention but they do need care . You must have an aquarium with plants and special equipment * . You must keep the water clean and at a certain temperature .
