Aliyah a Recent Waves of Aliyah During the decades preceding the establishment of the State of Israel , immigrants arrived in Israel mostly from Europe ( countries such as Russia , Poland , Romania and Germany ) . Since the founding of the State of Israel , immigrants have made aliyah from all over the world . During the early years , most of the immigrants were from Morocco , Iraq , Romania , Poland , Yemen and Iran . More recently , during the last few decades , there have been two new waves of immigration , one from Ethiopia and one from the Former Soviet Union ( such as Russia and Ukraine ) .
