Reading and Writing Student Book ( Pages 216 - 217 ) Pg . 216 , Exercise 1 : Read . Pre - Reading Activities : • o Introduce new reading words : recipe, flour, teaspoon, baking powder, syrup, cool . Use images to help students understand these terms . o Have students look at the picture of the ingredients and tools used in baking . Ask them to identify items they recognize and discuss how they might be used in making a cake . Reading Activities : • o Have students follow as you read the sentences or play the audio . o Then, read one row or item at a time and have students repeat chorally . o Have students read the recipe in pairs, with each student taking turns reading a step to practice following instructions and discussing the process . Post - Reading Activities : • o Ask questions to check for comprehension . Invite students to answer the question or, where possible, to read the sentence that answers the questions . Suggested questions for reading comprehension :  What is the name of the recipe ? Who is the recipe from ? What should you do after taking the cake out of the oven ? Why do you think you should let the cake cool before eating ? Why do you think the apples need to be cut into cubes ? o Have students imagine they are b aking their favorite cake .
