In each table, show the students the "magic" of the magic ‘e’ . For example, it changes • the word "mad" / mæd / to "made" / me ɪd / , “sam : / sæm / to “ same ” / seɪm / , “not” / n ɒt / to “note” / no ʊ t / , and “hop” / h ɑp / to “hope” / hoʊp / . Read the list of words to the students or play the audio, emphasizing the vowel affected • by the magic ‘e’ . Have students repeat the words after you to stress the difference . • Note that students don't need to know the meanings of these words ; they should focus • on the sound change caused by the magic ‘e’ . Pg . 30 , Exercise 2 : Read . Point out the word family of each box . • Remind the students that these word families match those in Exercise 1 . • Read the words together with the students chorally . • Have students practice reading the words silently . • Invite individual students to read a word aloud . ● Teach the students the meanings of the words using the accompanying illustrations or ● other visual aids .
