Focus on helping • them distinguish the ‘sh’ sound from similar sounds, such as ‘s’, and encourage them to build new words using this phoneme . This is also a great opportunity to connect with students whose names contain • the ‘sh’ sound, as in Arabic and Hebrew, where it is represented by a single letter unlike in English, where it is formed by combining two letters . , ) ش or ש ( Highlighting this difference can make the lesson more relatable and help students see the connection between their native languages and English .
