( Babylonian Talmud , Tractate Shavuot , p . 39 a ) Jewish people’s sense of responsibility for one another can be traced back to ancient times : as the Talmud states , “ All Jews are responsible for one another . ” These words can be seen as a call to all Jews to be accountable for one another . They also reflect the way Jews have related to each other throughout history . In this chapter you will read some examples of Jews helping one another ; examples which were selected from among thousands of stories about mutual responsibility . We will chart the help given to different communities on a world map in order to get a picture of Jewish solidarity throughout the ages .
