Examples : For the past twenty years , city planners have been trying to find solutions . .. Ms . Hansen has been living in a rent-controlled building for 40 years . In the Present Perfect Progressive , we use have / has + been + verb + ing Sentences in the Present Perfect Progressive often include time expressions such as for ... years and since ... These time expressions are also used with the Present Perfect Simple . However , the simple tense emphasizes the achievement of the action , whereas the progressive tense emphasizes the activity . 1 On ^ 24 complete the following sentences with the correct form of the verb : Present ^ Perfect Simple or Present Perfect Progressive . a The tenants ( live ) in that neighborhood for years and they would find it very hard to move to another partof the city . $ The writer ( work ) on a book on urban planning since the beginning of last year . She believes that it will take her another year to complete the book . ^ j For the last two years , the residents ( wait ) for a new community center to be built in their neighborhood , but City Hall ( not yet , give ) the order for building to begin .
