May use slang Of all the fancy hotels in Manhattan ( and there are a LOT of them ) , the one that first comes to mind is the Plaza Hotel . It was the settingof all those movies , such as Plaza Suite , Crocodile Dundee , and Home Alone 2 . Situated perfectly on the corner of Central Park South and luxurious 5 th Avenue , the Plaza is a modern-day legend . Elaine had the idea to have high tea * at the Plaza . For $ 29 . 95 , you get a pot of tea ( free refills on hot water — what a country !) , two 1 -inch pastries , two mini-scones , and two small finger sandwiches . Since the cost of this tea was our food budget for two days , we had to stretch it out as long as possible . I was tempted to take some of the untouched pastries at the next table , where a couple had just finished up and left ( that's how hungry I was ) . Despite the cost , this was oneof the highlightsof the trip . Manhattan is full of sights to see . No matter where you walk , you will find that there is a major attraction around the corner . This is particularly true in Midtown , the section of Manhattan between 34 th and 59 th Streets . You can begin your walking tour at 34 th Street , at the Empire State Building , and then walk your way to the New York Public Library . Behind the library is Bryant Park , where there are free concerts and exhibitions in the summer . From the park , you can continue to the newly restored Grand Central Station , and see the masses of people who come in and go out of Manhattan during rush hour . A few blocks away is Fifth Avenue , where you can see Rockefeller Center , St . Patrick's Cathedral , Trump Tower and the Plaza Hotel . Fifth Avenue is also known for its famous stores , including Tiffany's and FAO Schwartz . Towards evening , you should head towards the rejuvenated and lively Times Square and check out the theater crowd on its way to a Broadway show . The characteristics may apply to more than one type of travel writing . * high tea —4 o'clock tea .
