Booklet Page 38 : Preparing a slide about laughter Article 1 Learning through Laughter Laughter may be the best medicine . But is it possible that laughter also develops the mind ? Many educators believe that humor is a powerful way to encourage learning . Why might this be so ? First , increased motivation and interest encourage learning . By using humor in the classroom , the teacher motivates students to concentrate on the material they are studying . In addition , it seems that students are more likely to remember information that is presented in a humorous way . For example , in a recent study at Missouri Western State College , it was found that students remembered funny sentences a lot better than they remembered sentences which weren ' t funny . Some teachers believe that students are more likely to remember something funny because they are more interested and pay more attention when they learn it . Others believe that humor causes us to create a visual image in our minds . When students want to remember information they have learnt , they connect it with the funny image they created when they first heard it . Finally , when there is humor in a classroom , students are more relaxed . They are less afraid of making mistakes , so they are more likely to participate in the lessons . This encourages learning . In conclusion , it would seem that laughter is indeed good for learning . Perhaps in the future , all teachers will be made to study comedy as part of their training !
