Many pirates became legends because of the lives they led . 1 Read the story of Anne Bonney , a woman pirate , and complete the wanted poster on the Student Work Page Anne Bonney ( also Ann Bonny ) was one of two famous female pirates of the Caribbean . She was born between 1697 and 1700 in Ireland , the daughter of a lawyer . When she was young her parents moved to America , and the family became very rich there . It is said that even as a child she was wild , riding horses and shooting better than boys of her age . Anne Bonney began her lifeof piracy when she met the pirate Jack Rackham and joined him on his pirate ship , Revenge . She loved the excitement and adventure of her life as a pirate . She enjoyed stealing and spending money . Anne Bonney wore men's clothes . Like many sailors , she knew how to use a cutlass and other kinds of swords . She was an expert with a pistol and was known as a fierce and dangerous pirate . She was a fearless fighter and fought in all the ship ' s battles on the high seas . In 1 720 , Anne and Jack were caught and arrested by the British . Jack and his men were sentenced to death . Anne was pregnant , so her life was spared and she was sent to jail . Anne eventually escaped from jail and it is not known exactly what happened to her after that . However , the legend of this famous woman pirate lives on to this day . * This poster is not based on historical fact . You will have to use your imagination to fill in some of the details .
