Information about the topic , or background knowledge , also helps the reader understand the text . Y , Getting the general topic The topic is what the text is about in general . The topic can usually be described in a few words . Parts of the text that stand out and catch our eye 3 \^ called " eye-catchers . " These help to give a general idea about the topic of the text .
