Question Is the flow of water shown in the drawing scientifically possible ? Explain what happens when the water encounters the resistance of the surface over which it is flowing . Summary Energy is a vital necessity for the existence of natural phenomena , for the support of life processes , and for the operation of devices and appliances . Energy provides us with various utilities and services , including lighting , communications , and transportation . There are various types of energy , including radiation energy , kinetic energy , electrical energy , and heat . Energy can be transformed from one form to another ( transformation of energy ) . In general , during energy transformations , part of the energy turns into heat . Energy may be passed from one body to another ( transfer of energy ) . In many processes , energy transformations and transfers take place simultaneously . When friction occurs , kinetic energy is converted into heat . The law of conservation of energy states that in a closed system that does not enable any exchange of energy with its surroundings , the overall amount of energy is preserved .
