Shalom ! My name is Liat , and I live in Israel . I’m in the fifth grade , and these are some of my friends . Please join us as we learn about our country . We will visit with kids from all over Israel . The first thing we will do is find out why Israel has played such an important part in the story of the Jewish people . We will also learn how the modern State of Israel came to be . Let’s get started ! Shalom . I’m Liat’s kid brother , Natan . Liat is smart and lots of fun , but she can be so bossy and annoying . She calls me “ The Nudnik , ” but I don’t let it bother me . A Land of Opposites Israel is a small country—about the size of New Jersey ! Yet , for such a small country , Israel is chock-full of opposites .
