WORDS A Which of the new words on page 8 would you use to talk about animals ? People ? Events ? Write three lists in your notebook . Some words may fit one category . Some may fit more . Which list is the longest ? B Choose at least two words from each list . Write sentences in your notebook using the words you have chosen . I made a cake in honor of your birthday . C Look again at the new words on page 8 . How many nouns can you find ? Write them in your notebook . Nouns A noun is the name of a person , place or object . D Imagine you are a reporter for the Washington Post . You were with President Roosevelt on his hunting trip . Write a report for the newspaper using as many of the nouns you found in exercise C as you can . E Look at the cartoon of Teddy Roosevelt on page 9 again . With a partner , discuss the following questions . 1 . What does the cartoon show ? Describe it , using as many of the new words as you can . 2 . Why do you think this cartoon caused such a sensation ? F Get Creative ! Some say , “ A picture is worth a thousand words . ” Choose one of the cartoons below . Do you think this saying is true about the cartoon you chose ? Now write a caption in your notebook that best expresses what the cartoon is about . Share your caption with the class .
