עמוד:126

A Sovereign overe n State An Exemplary Society - “ as Envisioned by the Prophets of Israel ” The prophets taught about building a just society : He has told you , Oh man , what is good , and what God requires of you : only to act justly and to love goodness ... ( Micah 6 : 8 ) The Prophets of Israel believed that the Torah contains the values which should form the basis of society . 2 Read the following eight verses in the Bible . These verses refer to basic values upon which society should be built : liberty , peace and security , justice , guaranteeing the rights of foreigners and minorities , education , ingathering of the exiles and aliyah , the Jewish character of the State , and mutual responsibility . Look at the picture of the house on the next page . The house represents the State of Israel ; its windows list the values on which the state was founded . Write in each window the letter of the Biblical verse that corresponds to that value . a And you will make holy the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants . ( Leviticus 25 : 10 ) b And if a stranger lives with you in your land , you will not wrong him . The stranger that dwells with you will be to you as one born among you and you will love him as yourself , for you were strangers in the land of Egypt : I am the Lord your God . ( Leviticus 19 : 33-34 ) c Justice , only justice will you pursue that you may live and inherit the land which the Lord your God gives you . ( Deuteronomy 16 : 20 ) d And I will give you peace in the land , and you will lie down and none will make you afraid ; and I will remove evil beasts out of your land and no sword will go through your land . ( Leviticus 26 : 6 ) e For out of Zion will go forth the Torah and the word of God from Jerusalem . ( Isaiah 2 : 3 )
