As long as deep in the heart The Jewish soul still yearns , With eyes turned to the East , Toward Zion , Then our hope will not be lost , The hope of two thousand years , To be a free nation in our land , The land of Zion and Jerusalem . The word tikva – – hope appears twice in the anthem , in different grammatical forms . What hope is expressed in this anthem ? Why do you think this word was chosen as the name of the anthem ? 7 “ Leshana haba’ah b’yerushalayim – Next year in Jerusalem . ” Do a little detective work to figure out when and why these words are said – ask a parent , rabbi , etc .
