Section Task : Going to press Preparing the front page Write one full news article and the opening ( headline and lead paragraph ) of one more news article for the front page of an online news site or a print newspaper . 1 . Choose two news items for your front page . 2 . Make up suitable headlines for each news article . Use the headlines on page 6 as models . 3 . Write the lead paragraph of each article . Each lead paragraph should give the main points of the story and / or use a technique that helps to grab the reader ' s attention . Use the lead paragraphs on pages 7-8 as models . 4 . Write the full story for one of the articles . The full story should build on the lead paragraph . Use the article on page 9 as a model . 5 . Read over your work and make corrections . Use a dictionary or spell checker to check your spelling . Show your work to a partner and make corrections or improvements based on his or her feedback . 6 . Use the checklist below to make sure that your work is ready to submit to your teacher . Submit your final draft , with one or more early drafts . Your teacher will assess your work using the rubric on MmmfAlUllHlMUA 79 . The following checklist shows what you should have in your completed task . ? Each article has a suitable headline that gives an idea of what the article is about . ? In the headlines : • the verbs are in the present tense ; the forms of the verb "to be" are left out , even when the passive is used ; words like " a , " " an" and " the" are left out ; acceptable abbreviations are used where appropriate . ? The two lead paragraphs give the main information about the article and / or grab the reader's attention . The lead paragraphs answer who , what , when , where and why questions . ? The full story article builds on the lead paragraph . It provides background information , important details and examples and may include comments by people involved in the story . ? Spelling and grammar have been checked and mistakes have been corrected where necessary . If the article has been typed , a spell checker has been used . ? Corrections and improvements have been made based on feedback from a partner .
