Link to Language : Wh-questions Interviewers ask a lot of questions in order to get information . When we ask questions that cannot be answered with yes" or " no , " we use Wh-question words . 1 Read the questions in the table . What tense is used in each column — Past or Present ? How did you feel with the sharks around ? A helping verb ( do / does / did ) is used with all verbs ( except bej to form Wh-questions . Where did you buy the goggles ? Wh-word + do / does / did + subject + verb + rest of question When were you in Eilat ? Wh-word + am / is / are / was / were + subject + rest of question Note : When the answer to the question is the subject of the sentence , a helping verb is not used . Example : Who went to diving school ? Lisa went to diving school . What made the water rise ?
