Tomorrow ' s Games Read the interview and find out how technology is influencing toys and games . The Future is Now Ron Carter , of Just Games magazine , interviews David Hutton , a futurist and game designer . Hutton predicts future styles and designs new games . Ron ( R ) : How does a company decide what kind of game to develop or design ? David Hutton ( DH ) : First of all , we find out what young people are interested in . We talk to teenagers to find out how they use technology in their daily lives . We use that information to design and manufacture new products . In fact , many of our new and creative ideas come from teenagers . R : Which technology has been most influenced by the tastes of today's young people ? DH : I'd say cellular phones and digital games . Instant communication is extremely important for teenagers . It ' s a 24 / 7 thing for them . Teenagers are curious by nature and look for new experiences all the time . They also have time to try out new technologies . Digital games , especially interactive games , are very popular . Today we already see interactive games played on cellular phones . R : What will games or toys be like in the future ? DH : Video games of the future will probably have characters with almost human intelligence . Game designers are trying to create toys or characters in games that can think and understand spoken language . That means the toy or character will understand what the player tells it to do and will react in a logical way . R : Do toys like these already exist ? DH : Yes , using simple versions of the technology . For example , there are now interactive dolls for young children . A loud noise will wake the "baby" and the doll will begin to cry . The doll will stop crying when it is held and hugged . R : What are "virtual reality" games ? DH : Virtual reality , or VR , is the simulation of a situation that a player experiences in 3 D * . A player sees , hears and feels what is happening . It is as if he or she is actually there . The player sees the virtual world on a screen or through special glasses . These images or pictures change in response to the user's body movements . Imagine being able to be part of a soccer game against Manchester United ! R : That would be something ! Do you see more adults enjoying digital games ? DH : For sure ! In the future , there will be even more games and even more players .
