" Jules Verne ( 1828-1905 ) was a French author who wrote adventure stories that were based on scientific theory and facts . More than 100 years before man first set foot on the Moon , Jules Verne was already dreaming of how this could happen . In From the Earth to the Moon ( 1865 ) , Verne wrote about the first manned mission to the Moon : a three-person crew that took off from Florida in a spacecraft called Columbiad .
