Section Task : Carry Out Collecting and organizing information Choose an environmental problem and organize the information in an outline . 1 . Collect facts about an environmental problem using the library or the Internet . You can choose to find out more about one of the following : ? an issue raised on page 7 ; ? an environmental disaster mentioned on page 30 ; ? an issue that is important to you . 2 . After you have collected the information , organize it according to the main ideas . You can use the outline about coral reefs on page 37 as an example . Make sure that for each main idea , you have facts or examples that support the idea . ? The first part of the outline should reflect the main topic and main claim . ? The following sections of the outline should support the main claim . Use the facts and examples you have collected . ? Use complete sentences for your "Main Topic" and "Main Claim . " Use notes for presenting main and supporting ideas . Include key words in your sentences and notes . 3 . Use the checklist below to make sure that your outline has all the necessary components . 4 . Assess your outline using the rubric on 67 . Then ask a partner to assess it . ^ ^ 5 . Assess a partner ' s outline using the same criteria found on the assessment rubric . The following checklist shows what you should have in the completed task . My outline contains : ? A main topic sentence ? A main claim sentence ? One main idea in each paragraph ? Supporting ideas for each main idea An appropriate outline format is used .
