Water falling from a height ( waterfall ) : Here the running water turns the turbine . Tides : Sea water flow and ebb with a fixed periodicity . The rising water , which is called “ flow” , reaches a certain maximum level ( high tide ) while the receding water , which is called “ ebb” , recedes to a certain minimum height ( low tide ) . The time that elapses between one high tide to the next hide tide is about twelve hours . Power stations that run on ebbs and flows utilize the fluctuation of the water’s alternating periodic movement to turn the turbine . Different processes are made possible through energy changes . Energy changes are manifested in the transformation and / or transfer of energy .
